Description:
This Chick-fil-A Mac and Cheese copycat recipe replicates the rich, creamy, and cheesy baked mac and cheese that’s a favorite at the restaurant. Made with a blend of cheeses, including cheddar, parmesan, and romano, this recipe delivers the same velvety texture and golden-brown baked top that Chick-fil-A fans love.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz elbow macaroni
2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
    1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
    1/2 cup Romano cheese, grated
1 cup Colby-Jack cheese, shredded (for topping)
    1 cup whole milk
    1 cup heavy cream
    2 tablespoons butter
    2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
    Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  • 1. Cook the Pasta:
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
Add 8 oz elbow macaroni and cook until al dente, according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  • 2. Make the Cheese Sauce:
In a large saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat.
Whisk in 2 tablespoons of flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux, making sure it doesn’t brown.
Slowly pour in 1 cup of whole milk and 1 cup of heavy cream, whisking continuously until the mixture is smooth and starts to thicken, about 3-5 minutes.
  • 3. Add the Cheeses:
Lower the heat to medium-low and stir in 2 cups of shredded cheddar, 1/2 cup grated Parmesan, and 1/2 cup grated Romano cheese.
Stir until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • 4. Combine the Pasta and Cheese Sauce:
Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir to coat all the pasta in the sauce.
  • 5. Top with More Cheese:
    Preheat the oven’s broiler.
Transfer the mac and cheese to a greased baking dish and sprinkle 1 cup of shredded Colby-Jack cheese on top.
  • 6. Broil to Finish:
Place the baking dish under the broiler for 2-4 minutes, or until the cheese on top is golden brown and bubbly.
  • 7. Serve:
Remove from the oven and let it sit for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Advice:
For extra creaminess, add a bit more milk or cream to the cheese sauce as needed.
You can make this dish ahead of time and reheat it in the oven, but it’s best enjoyed fresh for that perfectly melty cheese top.
Customizations: Feel free to add crispy bacon bits or breadcrumbs on top for added texture.
